RUBBISH is an 8-week durational movement laboratory where artists are given time and space to dig through their own internal residue—healing, unraveling, and exposing what’s underneath through the STATE method—then shaping that rawness into work that speaks to what our communities are carrying for a salon performance called Rubbish
Artists who complete the Rubbish Dance Artist Incubator leave with 3 things:
a deepened connection to other artists working in and beyond this community;
a public-facing performance on their record;
direct experience working in the STATE Method; and the ability to carry our healing body-based method forward — both as a tool for their own dance-making and as a framework for engaging their communities in body-based healing. The work doesn't end at the door. It travels with them into every room they teach, make, and move in next.
This program forms a coherent Arts in Health ecosystem, one that meets people at every point of the pipeline, inside and outside, institutional and communal, with the same commitment to somatic literacy, relational accountability, and the healing capacity of embodied practice. Both insist that the body; imperfect, unfinished, ungovernable… is where real change begins.
